After a week of sagging grosses, Broadway bounced back a bit, in spite of the fact that the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur fell on a Friday night. Three plays are currently in previews (Brief Encounter, Mrs. Warren's Profession and newcomer The Pitmen Painters). Over at the Walter Kerr Theatre, the Tony winning duo of Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch continue to attract audiences to A Little Night Music,as the show entered the top three for capacity. Meanwhile reigning hits like Wicked, Billy Elliot and Jersey Boys maintained their top positions.
